Smart recycling with Android & Arduino
RecycleCan is a green-tech prototype built during my software engineering studies at SCE. The system encourages people to recycle more by making sorting effortless — scan a product barcode on your phone, and the right bin opens automatically.
The project spans three components: an Android app that scans recyclable product barcodes and communicates over Bluetooth with an Arduino controller, an Arduino sketch that drives servo motors, LEDs, and the Bluetooth module, and a 3D-printed physical recycling can prototype designed in SolidWorks.
We pitched the idea with full showcase documentation and demo videos, demonstrating how hardware and software can work together to solve an everyday environmental challenge.
